You arrive on an island dominated by an active volcano that last erupted in 2014. The lava fields from that eruption are still visible across much of the caldera.
The Route
Ferries depart from the port in Praia and arrive at the harbour in São Filipe, the main town on Fogo. The crossing takes you southwest across open Atlantic water.
How Long Does the Crossing Take?
The journey from Praia to Fogo takes approximately 4 hours. The Kriola vessel operated by CV Interilhas serves this route.
How Often Do Ferries Run?
CV Interilhas runs the Praia to Fogo service several times per week as part of the Linha Sotavento schedule. The exact days vary so check current times using the Ondas search tool before planning your trip.
Arriving in São Filipe
São Filipe is a colonial town with colourful buildings set on a cliff above the harbour. The town is small and walkable. From here you can arrange transport up into the Chã das Caldeiras caldera, where you can hike to the summit of Pico do Fogo.
