Praia to Fogo Ferry

The ferry from Praia on Santiago to São Filipe on Fogo is one of the most dramatic crossings in Cape Verde. You arrive on an island dominated by an active volcano that last erupted in 2014. The lava fields from that eruption are still visible across much of the caldera.

Ferries depart from the port in Praia and arrive at the harbour in São Filipe, the main town on Fogo. The crossing takes you southwest across open Atlantic water.

Arriving in São Filipe

São Filipe is a colonial town with colourful buildings set on a cliff above the harbour. The town is small and walkable. From here you can arrange transport up into the Chã das Caldeiras caldera, where you can hike to the summit of Pico do Fogo.

Continuing to Brava

If you want to visit Brava, the island can be reached by a short ferry hop from Fogo. The crossing takes around 1 hour and runs on the same Kriola service. Check the Ondas search tool for the Fogo to Brava schedule.
