Fogo to Brava Ferry

The ferry from Fogo to Brava is the only way to reach Cape Verde's most remote inhabited island. Brava has no working airport. The crossing is short — around 1 hour — but the island it delivers you to feels genuinely far from anywhere.

The Route

Ferries depart from the harbour in São Filipe on Fogo and arrive at the port of Furna on Brava. The crossing is the shortest in Cape Verde and runs on the same Kriola vessel that serves the Sotavento line.

How Long Does the Crossing Take?

The journey from Fogo to Brava takes approximately 1 hour.

How Often Do Ferries Run?

The Fogo to Brava service runs several times per week as part of the Linha Sotavento circuit. It does not run every day so check the current schedule on Ondas before planning your visit.

Why Visit Brava?

Brava is the smallest and quietest of the inhabited Cape Verde islands. It is known for its flowers, its cooler and wetter climate compared to the other islands, and its strong connections to the diaspora in the United States. The island has a slow pace and rewards travellers who are happy to spend a few days walking and exploring without a packed itinerary.

Arriving at Furna

The port of Furna sits at the bottom of a steep valley. From here aluguers take passengers up to Nova Sintra, the main town on the island, set higher up in the hills with views across to Fogo.

Getting to Brava From Praia

If you are coming from Santiago, you will need to take the ferry to Fogo first and then connect to the Brava service. Plan your journey using Ondas to see both legs.
